Bucket Drumming Karate
Now to take your Bucket Drumming to the next level...
In Karate, you achieve different coloured belts by demonstrating certain skills for your Sensei. The more difficult the skill, the higher the belt you are awarded.
We can do something similar with Bucket Drumming!
Attached to this page is a PowerPoint presentation with 7 different rhythms, each for a particular level (or belt). The belt order goes as follows: Level 1 White Belt, Level 2 Yellow Belt, Level 3 Orange Belt, Level 4 Green Belt, Level 5 Blue Belt, Level 6 Red Belt, and finally, Level 7 Black Belt.
White Belt is the easiest rhythm. Black Belt is the most difficult.
Your task is to record a video of yourself performing each of the rhythms. Make sure to start with Level 1 White Belt! Once you have submitted a video of yourself playing the White Belt rhythm, I will mark it (using the rubric criteria listed below). If you are successful, you will be awarded your White Belt and can move on to Level 2 Yellow Belt.
Your performance will be graded on the following criteria:
TEMPO
- did you keep a steady beat as you played?
RHYTHM
- did you correctly play the rhythms for each belt?
TECHNIQUE
- did you play the correct part of the drum when indicated?
POSTURE and STICKING
- did you sit up straight when playing?
- did you use the correct sticking ("R" and "L") when indicated?
Work your way through as many belts as you can!
If you are unable to open the PowerPoint presentation on your computer, I have attached a .pdf and images of the rhythms for each belt.
I have also attached recordings of each of the rhythms for each belt so you can hear how they sound.
Good luck!
