Flute--Concert Band Audition Pieces
You will be asked to audition by performing a short excerpt from two different pieces of music. Below, you will find the sheet music as well as recordings of the excerpts so that you can hear what they sound like.
The first piece for flute, "In the Wake of Spring", is to be played slowly and expressively. The second piece, "Those Fabulous Flutes", is to be played faster. Practice it slowly at first, then try to work up the speed until you can play it at the speed of the recording.
The fingerings to any new notes can be found on the fingering chart for your instrument. You can find the flute fingering chart under the tab that says "Instrument Fingering Charts" or at the back of the Standard of Excellence book we use in class.
Try to observe all of the dynamic and tempo markings, and try to perform all the articulations correctly as well.
Good luck!
